At AMC I work with my son Ryan, who is an Assistant Learning Mentor and is currently training to be an SEN tutor. He particularly specialises in supporting children with autism and related conditions.
There may be occasions when a male influence can be beneficial to a child with challenging learning difficulties, so we offer our clients the opportunity to decide in which circumstances it would be best for their child to have male tutor support. We may also recommend a male tutor for certain subjects if we access the child would respond better with that male influence.
That is why we treat and access each child as an individual and not just a child to treat like any other. Bespoke, tailored education plans are at the centre of what we do.

It is a fact that certain children respond better to a teacher of a specific gender. Often a child responds better to an understanding male, especially if they have a male authority in their lives. A male teacher may also suit a child who learns through practical experience (such as play, mechanical learning, computer learning etc.). Having a male available to assist is a benefit and for safeguarding reasons, having two adults is a far better option. This can be hugely beneficial for a child with complex needs or behaviour difficulties and some local authorities will include Learning Support Assistant support within the EHCP.
If a male is required due to the student’s needs, I would oversee any learning provision from Ryan, who is jointly also covered under our business insurance indemnity policy.
We offer a choice of tutoring, or a mixture of male and female instruction where appropriate.
As well as training to be an SEN tutor, Ryan is also a trained Learning Support Assistant at a local school.
